Burlington MA Real Estate
History
First settled in 1641, Burlington is now a suburban industrial town, but for most of its history, it was almost entirely agricultural, selling hops & rye to Boston and supplementing that income with small shoe-making shops. Early railroad expansion passed the Town limiting its early development and Burlington continued to cure hams for the Boston market and produce milk, fruit and vegetables. A lot changed in Burlington after Route 128 was built - there was a period of enormous economic expansions between 1955 and 1965, at which time Burlington was the fastest growing Town in the State of Massachusetts.
Burlington Today
The population of Burlington is about 25,000 and is home to many families with children in the local Burlington Public School District, which consists of four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. While much of this suburban town is residential neighborhoods, there are several great parks and outdoor areas. Burlington has a stable economy with excellent restaurants and shopping, including the Burlington Mall.
